Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some answers to your most pressing questions:
When and where will Bainworks 2019 be held?
Bainworks is traditionally held in Barcelona in October but the dates and location for 2019 haven't been finalized yet.
In what language will the event be held?
English will be the language of the event, as participants from Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Russia, the Nordics, Belgium and Poland will also be present.
Does this mean that I can also apply to participate in the event at the other European offices?
On principle, yes. The same selection criteria apply in each country, but we expect fluent knowledge of the local language (office preference).
What costs will I have to incur?
We will cover all costs for your travel to the country as well as for board and lodging.
What are the travel requirements?
To enter Spain, you need only a valid passport or identity card. Entry requirements can change on short notice, and you should check in advance any updated requirements that might be applicable. You can find further information on the website of Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
Does an invitation to an event automatically qualify me for an internship or direct job at Bain?
An invitation to an event does not automatically qualify you for a job or internship following the event. However, you can rest assured that we see great potential in you for a career at Bain and that you are well on the way toward qualifying for an internship or direct job.
Does an application rejection for the event also mean a general rejection for an internship or direct job at Bain & Company?
No. You can make a separate application at any time for an internship or direct job. We generally receive a large number of applications for events and have to apply very strict selection criteria. More information on the full-time application procedure can be found here. If you have any further questions on the application process, the event or on Bain, please do not hesitate to contact us.
What is the case study we'll be doing at Bainworks?
For 2019 it is to be determined but for 2018 Case Study Weekend it was "Mapping the World—What's Next in Digital Navigation?"
Besides being a place of historical and cultural heritage, Barcelona has become known for innovation in Europe in recent years. The city is not only a host to international, recognized events like the Mobile World Congress, but also a preferred location for big corporations to test their new business models and technologies. Barcelona has become one of the leading examples of Smart Cities, one of the most exciting battlefields of the Internet of Things!
The Internet of things (IoT) has threatened and, at the same time, opened up plenty of new opportunities for traditional businesses. An increase in computing power, decrease in cost of critical hardware, and emergence of new technologies have led to a dramatic shift in how we think about traditional businesses and industries.
Our client is a technology company that currently faces the above described dynamics in its core market. As its core business is coming to maturity, the client is exploring adjacent segments within the Indoor Maps & Tracking market.
While the company has most of the required assets, it is still struggling to answer the most critical question: Where to play and how to win? You and your team will help the client solve this question by identifying and evaluating the most attractive market segments and developing future-proof strategy to address these markets.
